Why you'd want to live in Davidson
Located 20 miles north of Charlotte, NC, we are a small college town with engaged and active citizens who care deeply about their community. We have a mayor, board of commissioners, manager, and staff, all dedicated to providing residents with a high quality of life. We appreciate Davidson's great "sense of community." We are home to Davidson College, with a certified arboretum and remarkable students who contribute to the life of the town. We are a pedestrian and bicycle-friendly town with a vibrant business district, historic downtown, and a calendar full of community events. We believe in sustainable open space, racial and economic diversity, environmental stewardship and promoting the health and wellness of our citizens. We welcome residents and visitors alike. Open Space, Greenways & Development We believe in open space. Since 2000, the town has acquired almost 600 acres of open space. Our miles of greenways and walking trails connect neighborhoods, providing citizens with alternate ways to get around town and access nature up close. Even our interstate interchange is different. When you drive off Interstate 77 into Davidson, you see offices, restaurants and hotels, but you also see green space, homes, schools and shops that all are accessible by pedestrians. Development is different in Davidson. We require public input sessions for all new developments, we follow new urbanist principles, and we believe in the importance of good design. We are the 2004 Smart Growth Award winner for Overall Excellence in town planning and design. In 2013, we won the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association's "Great Main Street" Award. In 2017, Davidson won two awards for the Rural Area Plan. We are known for our sense of community and signature events like April is for Arts, Town Day, Concerts on the Green, the Halloween March, and Christmas in Davidson that bring our residents together. via The Town of Davidson, NC
